Personal Coaching is a minefield of charlatans and incompetence so much so that I am almost inclined not to include it as an offering here.
However, that wouldn’t solve the problems I see within the industry. I have given many talks on this over the years, enquiring about a minimum standard of capability for coaches, and the removal of weekend courses by large organisations that qualify no one for anything useful.
Coaching is not a process. It cannot be reduced to a set of coping strategies that a 12 year old could follow given a flow chart of personal issues for a client.
Instead, it requires a nuanced way of listening to a client’s issues with a more Dynamic and Constructed Awareness in the moment. For this to happen, the coach must be a level or so above the client in order to see their habituated patterns and lack of balance in their construction of self.
